Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $754,723)

Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan Tribal Court is submitting application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance to enhance our Tribal Healing to Wellness Court. Funding will strengthen the capacity of SCIT to improve Tribal Court services to persons entering the justice system for crimes committed due to substance use disorders by providing case management, peer recovery, placement in permanent supportive housing and wrap around services to address recovery as an alternative to incarceration. This will be achieved through hiring of a Project Administrator and Case Manager to work toward the goal of recovery of clients. The 10-Key Components of Healing to Wellness Court will be the basis of the program and will lead to treatment and close monitoring of recovery through a Healing to Wellness Court Team that provides holistic, comprehensive services.
