ABSTRACT
FORT BELKNAP INDIAN COMMUNITY
PURPOSE AREA #3 – TRIBAL JUSTICE SYSTEMS (BJA)
Fort Belknap Indian Community is a federally recognized tribe located in Blaine County, Montana. Fort Belknap Indian Community represents the Aaniiih and Nakoda tribes for this application with this funding request of $739,502 for a 60-month project under the Tribal Justice Systems (Bureau of Justice Systems). The Fort Belknap Indian Community purposes to improve victim services, and to help prevent MMIP related incidents, and human trafficking instances. This will be accomplished by hiring two Victim/Witness Specialists (VWS) to help improve victim advocacy, connections to culture-based intervention services, and other local resources. The VWS will collaborate with other agencies such as the chief Tribal Prosecutor, Law Enforcement, the Criminal Investigator, and the FBI to improve local laws, policies, and protocols for victims of crime. The area to be served is the interior boundaries of the Fort Belknap Indian Community. Fort Belknap Indian Community will demonstrate programs effectiveness by increasing the number of victim services available, improving the response time of victim-related crimes, and decreasing the number of crimes involving Aaniiih and Nakoda Victims.
