Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $1,983,281)

The Detroit Police Department (DPD) is requesting funding to support the upgrade and expansion of its existing Body Worn Camera (BWC) Program. BWCs have become indispensable to DPD’s members in documenting contacts, conversations, critical incidents and emergencies.  They have enabled DPD to make a clear statement that the actions of DPD’s members are a matter of public record and improved the quality of its service. DPD expects to lease 2,500 BWCs, making one BWC available for every sworn officer. DPD has developed a phased implementation plan for the roll out and management of its program.
