Crossroads Charter Schools requests funds for their Supportive Community Initiative (SCI) to prevent violence and cultivate a safe, inclusive culture at Crossroads Preparatory Academy (CPA). The SCI will expand upon current efforts of our School Culture Team by adding personnel and adopting systems, training, and services that deeply integrate violence prevention best practices. Through the addition of a second SparkWheel coordinator and the hiring of three School Culture Assistants, who will take on dedicated duties of hall monitoring, intervention, mediation, escorting, and trust-building with students, and with the help of trainings on restorative community-building, de-escalation, and violence prevention, this project will improve school climate at Crossroads Preparatory Academy and help decrease and prevent school violence.

Crossroads Charter Schools serves students in preK through 12th grade who live within the boundaries of the Kansas City School District, in Jackson County, MO The student population is 27% white, 44% black, 21% Latino, and 8% other race; 10% SPED; 10% ELL; and the Free and Reduced Lunch eligibility rate is 47%. Crossroads Preparatory Academy, specifically, serves students in 7th through 12th grades.
