Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $91,357)

The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) proposes a comprehensive public safety initiative aimed at addressing gun violence and enhancing overall community safety in high-crime areas of Baton Rouge. By leveraging advanced surveillance technology and strengthening existing gang task force initiatives, this project seeks to create safer neighborhoods and improve the quality of life for residents. The primary activities of the project include the acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras in strategic locations, the enhancement of the BRPD's gang task force capabilities, and the fostering of stronger partnerships between law enforcement and the community. Through these efforts, the project expects to reduce the occurrence of gun-related crimes, improve public perception of safety and security, enhance the effectiveness of the gang task force, and promote community engagement. The intended beneficiaries of this project are the residents of Baton Rouge, particularly those living in areas disproportionately affected by gun violence. BRPD will actively seek partnerships with community organizations and other relevant stakeholders to support the project's goals.

This award is funded as an administrative funding adjustment of 15PBJA-21-GG-03028-GUNP.
