Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $99,000)

Sanford is the most populated City in Seminole County inviting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to participate in community events. These events enrich the well-beings and happiness of the community members and visitors that partake. Having barricades will be an extra line of defense to protect community members, visitors, and officers at events. There is an increase in reports of oncoming vehicles striking officers or bystanders of events, most with serious injuries and some fatal. The city hosted events that they would be used at include Memorial Day (parade and/or ceremony), July 4th, Trunk or Treat, Veteran’s Day Ceremony, and more. Non-city hosted annual events that they could be used at include Mardi Gras Sashay, All 5k’s (6-8 yearly races), Porchfest, Pints & paws, Art Festival, Food trucks (each month), SHS Homecoming parade, and Jazz Festival. With the portability of the barricades, the city can assist other municipalities by using the barricades and manpower.
