Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $600,000)

The New Mexico Department of Public Safety (NMDPS) is seeking $600,000 in federal funding from the 2023 Byrne Discretionary Community Project Funding in support of the NMDPS Emergency Power Distribution for the Vulnerable New Mexico State Police District Facilities Project. The purpose of the project is to address the critical need for redundant electrical power for New Mexico State Police (NMSP) district facilities throughout portions of the state. This project will enhance public safety by proactively mitigating the vulnerability of power outages in some of our more rural districts, to ensure we continue to provide undisrupted public services. These vulnerabilities in our infrastructure create risks for our law enforcement efforts, which utilize these facilities twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The NMSP rely on facility infrastructure to perform their duties and ensure the services they provide remain uninterrupted during a power outage, which is critical to the mission of the agency.
