Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,600,000)

This grant will allow the purchase of 20 Ford Interceptor hybrid patrol vehicles and two river patrol boats. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for law enforcement services throughout the County and its deputies drive two million miles per year. The purchase of these hybrid vehicles will greatly increase the fuel efficiency of the Sheriff's patrol fleet, reducing the amount of gas that is required and reducing the impact to the environment. The Washington County deputies patrol state, county, and local roadways, respond to emergency and non emergency calls for service in addition to patrolling local and state parks. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol Unit is responsible for patrolling and responding to emergencies on 50 miles of water between both the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers which are both federal water ways. These rivers are used for both commercial and recreational boaters with vessels ranging from small watercraft to large cabin cruisers and commercial barges.
