The Michigan State Police (MSP) is applying for the FY23 Emergency Federal Law Enforcement Assistance (ELFEA) Program 2 grant to compensate local law enforcement agencies and emergency medical services that responded to the active shooter situation at Michigan State University (MSU) on February 13, 2023. Twenty agencies from cities, townships, and counties across West, Central, and Southeast Michigan assisted in treating victims and locating the suspect. These agencies incurred significant, unplanned overtime expenses the night of the incident and over the following weeks, through March 27, 2023. With EFLEA funding, the MSP intends to reimburse these agencies for their timely and courageous response that helped restore safety and security to the MSU campus and surrounding communities.
