American Samoa Invited to Apply-PREA

The American Samoa Government is working towards achieving full compliance according to the PREA act of 2003 in its single adult correctional facility and secured juvenile detention center. It is important to identify necessary critical steps to take in order to reach full compliance. The PREA reallocation will be utilized to implement PREA standards in the territory. The American Samoa SAA invited a DOJ PREA certified auditor to conduct an unofficial pre-assessment in both facilities to gather information and recommendations of the necessary steps that needs to be taken in order for American Samoa to be in Compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act. The SAA will support the Department of Corrections in utilizing and presenting recommendations of corrective action plans from the pre-assessment to government leaders and stakeholders so necessary policies and procedures shall be established and implement accordingly. This allocation will be utilized for establishing the PREA Coordinator position within the Department of Corrections.
