Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $107,413)

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma (NDOK) has determined that the 2023 PSN grant strategy will focus on reducing violent crime within metropolitan areas. Specifically, the subgrant will fund a metropolitan judicial district with more than 50,000 inhabitants; the grant will create or expand a multijurisdictional violent crime task force. No subgrantee has been selected at this time; on receipt of federal funds, a subgrant application will be created and circulated to applicable agencies. Subgrant applications are required to specify the pressing violent crime issues and drivers they are currently experiencing and expand or develop their task force to address these issues and drivers. The grant will most likely be used to fund overtime for personnel attached to the task force; this will be officially determined based on approval of the subgrant application and project. The funded task force will engage in focused and strategic enforcement to investigate violent crimes, with special attention paid to hot spot locations and/or gang affiliated offenders. The task force will also engage in community engagement by regularly communicating with all local law enforcement agencies in the region as well as any other NDOK PSN partners. The Tulsa metro area harbors much of the Northern District’s gang activity, but metro gang violence bleeds into rural areas, causing many rural judicial districts to experience an influx in violent crimes such as firearm crime, murder, rape, aggravated assault, and other index crimes. Applicants applying for subgrant funding must specify how their rural crime drivers relate to gang violence and create a plan to meet the 30% set aside. Beneficiaries of this program would include metropolitan areas, specifically residents in the area and staff of larger judicial districts, as well as the NDOK and its partner agencies.
