Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $163,049)
The Project Safe Neighborhood Task Force is an enforcement project whose efforts are based on data developed by the Area Tactical Analysis Center (ATAC). The project area was developed based on crime data from the ATAC. The area encompasses 5.25 square miles containing a residential population of 22,069. Our goals and objectives are to mitigate the severity and frequency of gang offenses by focusing additional enforcement efforts on documented gang members. This includes gang members on parole and probation, actively being investigated for violent crimes, and gang leaders in the project area. Enforcement strategies will be evidence-based and supported by the ATAC.
The enforcement efforts are primarily completed by the Ogden Police Department, which is assisted by the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Department of Adult Parole and Probation, the South Ogden Police Department, the Utah Department of Public Safety, the United States Attorney’s Office, and the Weber County Attorney’s Office. Gang and violent crime lead to the destabilization of neighborhoods. Therefore, cases are developed on gang “Shot Callers” and career violent criminals. These cases are investigated and screened for federal charges, which include drug charges and restricted persons in possession of firearms cases. Individuals charged with federal offenses must meet strict guidelines for prosecution. The cases against these offenders and gang organizations are screened and filed by Special United States Attorney’s Office.
Funding is allocated to support enforcement, DNA testing, and prosecution, in partnership with the United Way of Northern Utah. A crime analyst in the ATAC completes regular reviews of crime trends in the project area, state and federal prison releases, and most-wanted lists. Camera technology in the PSN area is critical to success. Overt, Covert, and ALPR camera technology is deployed in the area to enhance our ability to gather intelligence and aid in stabilizing neighborhoods.
