Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $800,000)

The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) proposes to expand and improve the Department’s existing BWC program. The purpose is to obtain funds to purchase 400 BWCs to replace outdated GoPro units with operability and data storage issues. Project activities include implementation of unlimited, cloud-based data storage; development of a comprehensive training program; and development of policies and procedures in coordination with an assigned TTA provider. Expected outcomes include increased accountability, transparency, and safety; decreased liability and instances of false accusations; improved evidence collection; and ongoing training and policy improvements. The service area for the proposed project is the entire State of Colorado, specifically, the 19 facilities located in 10 Colorado counties. The intended beneficiaries for the project include inmates, staff, and the public through improved safety.
