Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $375,000)

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), through the BJA FY 23 Intellectual Property Enforcement Program (IPEP): Protecting Public Health, Safety, and the Economy from Counterfeit Goods and Product Piracy, and in partnership with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office  (LACA), is proposing to implement the 2023-2025 Protect LA from Counterfeit Goods and Product Piracy Program.  The proposed program aims to implement strategies to reduce and prevent the spread of counterfeit/illicit pharmaceutical drugs and electronics/ automobile parts throughout the Los Angeles (LA) region and to expand the efforts of LACA by using California Unfair Competition Laws to seek restrictive injunctions and significant financial penalties to abate counterfeit goods that threaten public health and safety and deprive intellectual property (IP) owners the fruits of their labor.
