Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $375,000)

The NC Secretary of State (NCSOS) has successfully investigated and prosecuted IP crimes across North Carolina. NCSOS continues to identify the manufacture, marketing, and sale of counterfeit goods in nearly every county within NC. This criminal activity threatens the health and safety of NC residents and the economic capital of brand holders. As a result of successes and funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s IP Enforcement Program, the NCSOS Taskforce has expanded its coordination to include the following: 98 Taskforce members representing 36 local law enforcement agencies across the state; one campus police agency; and multiple state and federal agency partners. Among other things, NCSOS will conduct a paid social media campaign using public service announcements produced by the National Crime Prevention Council and Verify Before You Buy (provided by the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies).
