Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,079,646)
The Delaware Criminal Justice Council is the state criminal justice planning agency for Delaware and oversees the use of Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant funds in Delaware. Delaware’s Byrne JAG strategy is developed with the assistance and direction of the Drug and Violent Crime Advisory Committee, a subcommittee of the Criminal Justice Council. The Drug and Violent Crime Advisory Committee sets the State’s priority areas under Byrne JAG and determines which projects will best address those priorities. In addition, a 5 yr. Strategic Plan was developed and submitted as part of the FY 23 application.
Programs being funded in FY 2023 will be those for the administration and monitoring of the FY 22 BJAG grant programs, the support of SENTAC by providing staffing and supplies, maintaining and updating the Bench Book and staffing meetings and to support the Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) in their mission of maintaining and gathering data for the improvement of the criminal justice system. Some of the priorities Byrne JAG funds sought to address with FY22 funds, and will continue with FY23, are the yearly Police Chiefs Law Enforcement Training. We will also continue to support our States Department of Homeland Security with its Statewide Law Enforcement Accreditation to assist smaller departments with Accreditation. We will also continue our statewide FBI LEEDA Advanced Training for the development of supervisors and staff for all agencies both large and small. We will also continue to efforts statewide in, re-entry, and drug use/interdiction, technology advances for the courts, Department of Justice, Department of Defense Services, law enforcement and the criminal justice system overall.
The Goals and Objectives of the project are outlined in the project design and in the Strategic Plan in accordance with BJA guidelines and will be collected and uploaded as directed by BJA.
