Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $2,471,978)

It is the goal of the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet to use funds awarded from the 2023 JAG State Program to assist state and local units of government and nonprofit agencies to create and augment projects, which will concentrate on substance abuse. Kentucky strategy includes placing funding priority on multi-jurisdictional drug task forces and programs that confront substance abuse through prevention, intervention, and enforcement. These priorities have been identified by Kentucky’s Criminal Justice Council, the advisory body to the Secretary of the Kentucky Justice Cabinet. Kentucky will use funds to support multi-jurisdictional drug task force programs and enhanced enforcement activities, substance abuse and reentry initiatives targeting justice-involved individuals, overtime for public safety officers, and juvenile drug and alcohol prevention programs. These funds will support long-term investments in public safety which address substance abuse and enhance other law enforcement initiatives to protect Kentucky citizens. Kentucky coordination plans include awarding of funds to approved applicants by October 1, 2024.
