Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $4,998,317)

The Missouri Department of Public Safety proposes to implement the FY 2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The purpose of the program is to advance work that promotes civil rights and racial equity. Increases access to justice, supports crime victims and individuals impacted by the justice system, strengthens community safety and protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety (DPS) collaborates with state and local law enforcement agencies to provide a proactive approach for the public safety of Missourians.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety’s strategic priorities encompass several key initiatives including; building relationships with external stakeholders, identifying hazards and threats to public safety, maintaining sufficient capacities to perform statutorily required responsibilities and utilizing Federal and State programs to protect, as well as, provide impactful service to Missouri citizens. Missouri invites stakeholders and partners to also adopt these priorities and join them in building more prepared, protected and secure Missouri communities. Public safety is a shared responsibility and funding should support priorities that are the most impactful and demonstrate the greatest return on investment. The Missouri Department of Public Safety seeks to forge partnerships with our law enforcement partners by providing them resources.

These projects will have a substantial impact throughout the state of Missouri by providing increased access to equipment for law enforcement, prosecution and court program assistance, crime witness protection, decreased violent crime though information sharing, and through drug crime reduction.
