From the very beginning of the present drug and violent crime control program, initiated with the passage and funding of the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986, South Dakota has used a coordinated resources approach in developing, implementing and monitoring the strategy for the Byrne Program. This approach continues.
The priorities for funding and the programs currently identified to be funded (in whole or in part) for the period covered by this application are:
1.Increase the manpower and other resources needed to address the drug and violent crime issues facing the law enforcement community in the State.
a. State Drug Task Force Program (continuation)
b. Highway Patrol Equipment/Training
2. Increase the manpower and other resources needed to address the drug and violent crime issues facing the prosecution community in the State.
a. Statewide Drug Prosecution Program (continuation)
3. Increase the manpower and other resources needed to address needs identified in the local and tribal communities in the State.
