Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $43,730)
JAG funding will be used to refurbish the food service trailer that we deploy around the state for disaster response. This food trailer allows our teams to be self sufficient while assisting other areas in need. The trailer needs refrigeration/freezer and a convection oven. Refurbishment will include removing existing equipment, removing propane tank holders and gas lines, capping off water lines and installation of new equipment, new propane manifold and regulator and two new propane tank racks with covers. Lake County sends teams to assist in times of natural disaster and crisis response, such as school shootings and SWAT requests. Ensuring that first responders have time to rest during intense crisis situations is crucial for well being and optimal performance. Our teams are trained to assist and provide emergency assistance when needed most.
Our agency is also requesting funding for a hazardous device portable XRAY. The portable XRAY would be used on suspicious packages found at schools, large gatherings, public or private places and in reports of possible hazardous devices. It would allow the Hazardous Device Team to scan a potentially dangerous item without having to come in direct contact with it. Lake County hosts numerous large events each year including the Mount Dora Arts Festival, Leesburg Bike Fest, Reningers Antique Extravaganza, Clermont’s Pig on the Pond, the Lake County Fair, and countless fishing, boating, and sporting events. Any of these activities, where large crowds gather in small spaces become likely targets of attack. The portable xray would be utilized to protect Deputies and citizens. The Lake County Hazardous Device Team responds to incidents within unincorporated areas and the 12 municipalities.
