Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $637,411)

The city of Atlanta will use JAG funds to purchase police K-9 and detective vehicles that will be used in accordance with initial and follow-up investigations to include locating violent felons, guns, drugs, and missing adults/children. To purchase equipment to facilitate a quicker turnaround time for the entry of cartridge case data of shell casings recovered from crime scenes and test-fired guns, enabling case solvability and increased evidence availability for prosecution of violent crime offenders.

The disparate jurisdictions of Fulton, College Park, East Point, Roswell, Sandy Springs, South Fulton, and Union City will use JAG funds for technology, equipment, and educational programming.  Specifically, the county of Fulton will use JAG to replace ballistic vests that have reached the 5-year warranty/expiration period to ensure safety and protection for Deputies as they provide services to Fulton County citizens.  The city of College Park will use JAG funds to purchase enhancement technology for “911” and tablets to provide portable access to criminal justice information for detectives and patrol officers, while investigating crimes in the field. The city of East Point will use JAG funds to provide educational programming, events, and activities as part of a community-based campaign to reduce youth violence. The city of Roswell will use JAG funds to purchase Event Data Recorder (EDR) toolkits and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) speed detection devices. The toolkits will help the Roswell Police Department accurately reconstruct traffic accidents, and the LIDAR units will help it to efficiently enforce traffic violations.  The city of Sandy Springs will use JAG funds to purchase one 18” Speed Alert Radar Message Sign with strobe to assist with patrol and to promote public trust between the community and the Department through non-enforcement interactions. In addition, the City proposes to purchase photo and video hardware to create digital content for the website and social media channels to continue supporting the City’s efforts to attract and retain an all-inclusive, diverse, expert, and accountable law enforcement workforce.  The city of South Fulton will use JAG funds to purchase a Ford F-150 marked patrol vehicle to enhance mobility, response times, and patrol capabilities. The vehicle will be used in the ordinary course for routine police patrol within the U.S. Acquisition of two handheld speed detection laser devices to strengthen traffic enforcement, ensuring safety on South Fulton roads. The city of Union City will use JAG funds to purchase laptops. This initiative equips officers with advanced laptops, streamlining field operations, and enhancing safety with GPS and realtime updates. These funds ensure the program's responsiveness to advancing technology, optimizing efficiency, and fostering a proactive patrol approach.
