Purchase of equipment/supplies for intelligence-led policing to reduce crime rates.

Driving principals at Hutchinson Police Department are community engagements and intelligence led policing. Intelligence-led policing relies highly on the use of technology to support our efforts to help reduce our crime rate in Hutchinson and Reno County. To increase safety for both officers and civilians while on scenes at night and to be used to increase visibility in high crime areas we would like to purchase Tele-lite Honda Generator LED Light combos. Studies have shown that illuminated areas work as a deterrent to criminal activity and also increase safety. We would purchase (2) Vortex Diamondback HD 20-60*80 spotting scopes with Vortex High Country II Tripods. This would increase officers and investigator’s ability to observe high crime areas and identify potential suspects from a safe distance.  Our defensive tactics staff have also been looking into humane restraint devices. Several of those items are the The Wrap, by Safe Restraints, and Spider Cuffs.

The rest of the project will be passed to Reno County as a subrecipient. They usually spend their portion on supplies.
