New Bern Police Department - AED Project

The New Bern Police Department will use the JAG funds to purchase eight automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to be placed in patrol vehicles and/or police facilities. During 2022, officers responded to 508 medical calls for service, and in the first half of 2023, officers responded to 225 medical calls. The medical calls include breathing problems, cardiac respiratory arrest, chest pain, heart problems, and overdoses. The police department believes that these tools will further their ability to provide timely services to the community members in hopes of saving lives.
