Automatic License Plate Reader / Public Camera System

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office in an effort to build strong, sustained partnerships with community residents and organizations to support CVI work in communities most impacted by violent crime have chosen to invest in public facing surveillance cameras on public highways. The surveillance cameras utilize the automatic license plate reader technology to capture vehicles traveling on these highways in an effort to identify suspected criminal subjects either entering into or leaving from high crime and relevant areas of criminal activity.  These cameras are not real-time but after the fact criminal lead generators.  We pose these cameras will overall help the agency and the citizens solve crime and thereby making the community safer.
