Better Policing Project

The City of Altoona Police Department proposes to implement the Better Policing program.  The purpose is to help fund the City Police Departments Taser Fund and assist in purchasing a radar speed sign.  Expected outcomes are for the Police Department to continue to have a less lethal option when dealing with combative subjects to reduce the risk of injury to citizens and officers in the City of Altoona.  Additionally, it is an expected outcome for the radar speed sign to be used as a traffic calming device and a tool to collect date to reduce speed related crashes with in the City of Altoona.  Sub-recipient (County of Blair Sheriff's Department) will use funds to help fund their taser program. The expected outcome of their program is to continue to have a less lethal option when dealing with combative subjects to reduce the risk of injury to citizens and Deputies in the County of Blair.
