The Providence Police Department (PPD) is committed to improving its ability to protect its residents, visitors, and its police officers. For this reason, the department is seeking to utilize the funding from the 2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Grant for the purpose of computer technology upgrades with the focus on the upgrade to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to allow compatibility with a new system currently being planned and installed at the Rhode Island State Attorney Generals Department.
