Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $12,352)

The Clarendon County Sheriff's office utilizes eight investigator positions for crime investigations including murder. The purpose of this application is to replace the old, failing crime scene cameras and purchase new cameras assigned to each investigator. Upgrading these cameras is essential to the complete and efficient investigation of crimes. The Sheriff's Office uses a four-man K-9 tracking team and a 17 officer SRT Team, one of whose jobs is to track and apprehend suspects who are attempting to evade law enforcement, locate missing persons/children, suicidal subjects, and patients with various medical conditions. One of the most urgent needs for these teams is a thermal monocular designed to detect heat signatures associated with a human being in low light or no light situations. The thermal monocular will also work in heavy wooded areas. The new equipment and cameras to be purchased will greatly enhance the capabilities of the investigations divisions of the Sheriff's Office.
