Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $94,303)
The Office of Higher Education (OHE) has been designated by the Governor of the State of Connecticut to serve as the state administrative agency for the 2023 JRJ GRANT. OHE will be the primary recipient and will collaborate with the Division of Public Defender Services (DPDS) and the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) to ensure that full time public defenders and prosecutors employed by each agency and full time public defenders employed by the Federal Public Defenders (FPD) in Connecticut will be able to apply for loan repayment assistance to their designated agency pursuant to the criteria established by the grant, OHE, DPDS and DCJ. In addition, all individuals who may have already completed their three-year term of service of their original JRJSLRP Service Agreement will be allowed to submit an application for benefits under the 2023 JRJ Grant.
Connecticut is eligible to receive an allocation in the amount of $94,303 for fiscal year 2023. This amount will be shared equally between the DPDS and DCJ and any repayment award made to a full time Federal Public Defender will be from DPDS’ share of the allocation. Criteria has been developed by OHE, DPDS and DCJ to award applicants based upon the least ability to pay their student loans and upon years of government service as a full time state or federal public defender or state prosecutor.
