Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $125,774)
The Frontier Central School District (Frontier CSD) respectfully requests $125,774 in BJA STOP School Violence FY23 funds to deliver evidence-based anti-violence training programs to its staff, administrators, and students in Hamburg, New York during the three-year grant period (October 2023-September 2026). The district serves 4,583 K-12 students across six school sites (four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school). Frontier CSD staff will receive professional development in areas such as trauma-informed care, restorative justice and community circles, bullying prevention, and positive school climate development.
This program will result in the implementation of training and identification of age-appropriate resources that can be used to help students who are struggling with mental health crises. The programming will also deliver training in the areas of social-emotional learning, suicide prevention, bullying prevention, violence prevention, and emergency preparedness. The program’s goal is to prevent and reduce school violence, including violence committed with firearms. Its primary objective is to increase school safety using evidence-based solutions to prevent violence against schools, staff, and students and ensure a positive school climate.
