Enhancing Student and Community Safety in Elba CSD (ESCS in ECSD)

Elba Central School District (ECSD) is located in Genesee County in Upstate New York. The project will hire a social worker to expand mental and behavioral health services and coordinate multitiered systems of support (MTSS) and grant activities, upgrade the loudspeaker system, add staff to school entrance to identify and check in visitors, train the SRO and school staff, increase translation services through interpreter time and translation vendor contracts, establish a community center that offers evening and weekend educational sessions for students and families yearly, and review and revise policies including incorporating efforts like use of a therapy dog to establish a calm and supportive environment to improve school climate. Topics on which training will be offered to the SRO and school staff include diversity, equity, and inclusion; equitable school discipline; violence prevention; de-escalation strategies; trauma-sensitive approaches; restorative justice practices; MTSS/positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS); threat assessment; reporting systems; bullying prevention; active shooter training; supporting mental health and responding to mental health crises; and addiction and recovery education.
