Rural Crime Reduction Project

The proposed project targets all rural census tracts of Lancaster County, South Carolina, and is based on the most rigorous needs assessment conducted in county history. Three critical elements are proposed: formation of a Criminal Justice Coordinating Council; expanded Community Collaborations that include outreach fairs, neighborhood crime watches, public awareness campaign, and home visits conducted to over 900 households; and an evidence-based strategy (Risk Terrain Modeling) to conduct crime mapping of environmental factors linked with violent crime.
