Wayne County: Partnership and Engagement to Prevent Violence

Wayne County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) serves a rural population of more than 90,000 spread out over more than 1,300 square miles. With fewer than 90 deputies, the WCSO operates above the New York (NY) State Thruway and between the cities of Rochester, NY, and Syracuse, NY. Intimate partner violence, drug-related violence, and youth violence are ongoing concerns, especially after the pandemic. Grant funding will be utilized to hire a community resource officer to guide the sheriff's department through the development of collaboration and partnership as key strategies to reduce violence.
