The Hammond Police Department will implement gunshot detection technology, an innovative gunshot detection policing technology, in a six-square mile area. The purpose is to improve public safety, decrease gun violence, and increase timely medical assistance for residents experiencing gun violence. Expected outcomes are increased casing recovery, enhanced regional cross-agency collaboration, and more rapid medical response. The proposed technology will cover six square miles, identified as gun violence hot spots based on historical crime data. By leveraging a suite of analysis, innovative technology, and evidence-based practices to complete safe policing efforts, Hammond seeks to reduce violent crime, increase investigative leads, and enhance public safety.
