The Rural Sheriff’s Office seeks to create a new position for a violent crime prevention officer to oversee and implement community-based prevention programs that address violent crime in our rural community. The officer will work collaboratively with local law enforcement agencies, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to identify and develop violence-prevention strategies that are tailored to the unique needs of our community. The violent crime prevention officer will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including developing and implementing evidence-based violence prevention programs, engaging the community through education and awareness campaigns, implementing youth mentorship programs, and facilitating community-wide discussions to identify and address the root causes of violence. The violent crime prevention officer position will collaborate with two Native American tribes and is a critical intervention in the fight against violent crime. This position will complement other efforts undertaken by law enforcement and provide critical resources to support the reduction of violent crime in these communities. Therefore, with the assistance of a violent crime prevention officer position the two Native American tribes will experience a significant reduction in violent crime rates and improve the overall public safety within their communities.
