Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $899,999)
In December, 2019, the Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska received a partner designation in the Tribal Access Program (TAP) for National Crime Information, a program that provides federally recognized tribes the ability to access national crime information data bases for criminal and non-criminal justice purposes. The Tribe, however, remains understaffed for this program, creating a significant gap in justice services while causing significant delays in accessing national crime information and issuing protective orders, also resulting in slower service and Village Public Safety Officer response times. Closing service gap calls for hiring a TAP coordinator, who will be responsible for crafting program policies and procedures as well as operating the program to meet the needs of the Tribe and its 35,000 citizens.
