Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $838,431)
In response to documented community threats of (1) assaults and sexual assaults, domestic violence, child and elder abuse, and other disturbance calls; (2) controlled substance misuses, as well as opioid and other illicit substances production, distribution, and use; (3) burglaries, thefts, and trespasses; and (4) missing and murdered indigenous people (MMIP), human trafficking, and sextortion, Chickaloon Village Traditional Council’s Justice Department is proposing to hire and train qualified tribal police officers to work in support of the Chickaloon Village Traditional Tribal Court. Tribal police officers will provide community policing needs, provide a proactive crime prevention presence, and enhance community collaborations with local, state, and federal agencies to create safer communities within Chickaloon’s documented jurisdiction.
