Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $517,346)

Miami-Dade County (MDC), a local unit of government, is applying for its full allocation of $517,346.00 from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. MDC will use the funding to support a law enforcement program, 2023 Crime-Fighting Toolkit: Building Community Infrastructure, for the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), the largest public safety agency serving the local jurisdiction of MDC. MDPD’s strategy and funding priority for FY23 JAG funds will be to continue to refine a robust crime-fighting toolkit with an emphasis on reducing crime through investments in community infrastructure, through empowering and supporting community members. With a two-fold program, MDPD will improve public safety by (1) training and employing additional law enforcement personnel and (2) connecting residents to vital social services – which will improve both public and officer safety, use limited resources more effectively and efficiently, and leverage results from previous Byrne JAG Program investments.
