Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $782,000)

The City of Henderson plans to implement a Total Wellness Program, aimed at enhancing the physical and mental well-being of public safety employees through a holistic, best-practice-based approach. The program will involve several key activities including hiring a clinician who will support the peer support program, assist with crisis interventions, provide referrals to community mental and social health resources, and conduct debriefings following critical incidents; facilitate annual training sessions focused on building resiliency among first responders; offer FDA-approved brainwave treatments to improve mental health outcomes; and provide nutritional support by contracting with registered dieticians to enhance the dietary habits and overall nutrition of public safety employees and their families. The anticipated outcomes of the Total Wellness Program include expanding the peer support program through the addition of a dedicated clinician; increase the number of trainers available to conduct resiliency training; enhance the sleep quality, mood, and focus of public safety employees; and improve the overall health and nutrition of first responders and their families. All program activities will be executed by Henderson staff and contracted service providers, with no involvement of subrecipients.
