Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $963,000)

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has requested a budget of $963,000 to acquire and install video surveillance cameras, cover overtime expenses, and purchase necessary supplies. This initiative aims to support small businesses in Patrol Borough Manhattan North (PBMN) that have become targets of criminal activities. The implementation of these security measures is crucial in addressing the recent surge in crimes within commercial areas in PBMN. Additionally, the NYPD plans to establish a Crime Prevention Task Force, which will organize training courses and seminars to assist small businesses like the Bodega Association, 181St Business Improvement District, the Inwood Merchant Association, Harlem Chamber of Commerce, Fredrick Douglass Alliance, Yemeni American Merchants Association, and others. Furthermore, the NYPD will distribute crime prevention literature to both small businesses and the general public. The Department will also collaborate with the aforementioned associations to organize community events that aim to strengthen relationships and promote public safety through the development of neighborhood and crime prevention strategies. This Strategic Plan aligns with the New York City Police Commissioner's ongoing mission to combat crime and enhance the overall quality of life for all residents of the city by fostering a strong partnership with the community.
