Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $595,000)

The Morgan County Commission proposes to implement the Morgan County Public Safety Equipment and Vehicles Project. The purpose of this project is to enhance public safety initiatives in Morgan County Alabama and surrounding communities. These initiatives included the prevention of crime and drug trafficking, as well as equipping officers with the necessary tools to act should an active shooter situation occur. Project activities include purchasing and outfitting patrol vehicles and purchasing and implementing public safety equipment.  This public safety equipment includes body-worn cameras, bulletproof vests, radios, computers, and active shooter equipment like ballistic shields. Expected outcomes of this project include but are not limited to, providing front-line officers, who are usually first on the scene of an incident, with the tools, training, and equipment they need to respond to threats, to protect themselves, and to save innocent lives. The citizens of Morgan County, and surrounding communities, are the intended beneficiaries of the project.
