Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $932,000)

Travis County will utilize this funding to implement a Peer Support Services program for opioid use disorder (OUD) recovery at a local hospital emergency department and within the county court system. The purpose of the project is to provide peer recovery coaches (PRCs) who assist individuals with OUD to recover from their affliction. The project will fund a contract with a local community benefit organization to provide three PRCs in a local hospital emergency department to perform these services. The project will also fund two Travis County employed PRCs to provide these services in the civil Family Drug Treatment Court and Criminal Drug Court. This project will strengthen the community’s ability to address the public health crisis related to OUD, and the expected outcomes include helping individuals with OUD increase their use of medically assisted treatments, decrease the number of repeated medically treated overdoses, reduce self-reported drug use, and increase individuals’ quality of life.
