Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,926,000)

The Seattle Community Assisted Response and Engagement (CARE) Department proposes to implement the expansion of the operations of the CARE Team throughout the City of Seattle. Project activities include increasing the team’s staffing to allow the team’s crisis responders to provide services to the subjects of 911 calls in a manner that is as accessible and responsive as possible throughout the entirety of Seattle by hiring 18 additional full-time Community Crisis Responders and 3 Community Crisis Responder Supervisors to supplement the existing staff of 6 Community Crisis Responders and 1 Crisis Response Manager. Expected outcomes include the expansion of service availability from the City of Seattle’s West Police precinct to the entirety of the City of Seattle to assist an increased number of community members experiencing behavioral health or related needs throughout a more diverse demographical array of Seattle neighborhoods; ensuring minimal response times to maintain stakeholder buy-in and timely assistance to such community members; the provision of supplies, transportation, and resource navigation to address basic needs directly to such community members. No subrecipient activities are proposed.
