Glynn County Board of Commissioners, as lead applicant, is seeking multi-jurisdictional funding to replace end of service life portable and mobile radios used by local first responders. The portable radios currently in use are the APEX 6000 AN model and reached the end of their lifespan on December 31, 2023. Glynn County first responders are responsible for the public safety of over 85,000 residents living within the barrier island communities of Sea Island, St. Simons Island, Little St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island, and unincorporated areas of the County.  Just over 16,000 of the 85,000 residents live within the jurisdiction of the City of Brunswick. Glynn County is requesting to replace obsolete portable and mobile radios for local first responders within the agencies of Glynn County and City of Brunswick. Agencies include Glynn County Police, Glynn County Sheriff’s Office, GB911, City of Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). These agencies protect the life and property of the citizens and visitors of Glynn County by enhancing law enforcement and emergency management services. All citizens of Glynn County will benefit from this project providing continuity of public safety services, as well as improved response times when events occur.
