Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $660,000)
The primary objective of the Chelan County Sheriff's Office Body Worn Camera (BWC) Program is to improve transparency and accountability in policing by recording interactions between law enforcement and members of the public. BWC's can provide an objective record of events that can be used to resolve disputes or provide evidence in court cases. This can help to increase trust between law enforcement and the community we serve, as well as promote better policing practices. In addition to improving accountability and reducing complaints against law enforcement, BWC programs have been shown to increase the likelihood of successful prosecutions.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office BWC program also has the potential to promote better policing practices by providing law enforcement with an objective record of their interactions with members of the public. This can help to identify areas where law enforcement may need additional training or support, as well as provide feedback on their performance.
