Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $963,000)

The Atlanta Safety and Justice Accelerator is a multi-month training program for leaders of community violence intervention programs (CVIP), and hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIP) that address community violence in Atlanta. The goals of the program are to build a clear model for their intervention, evaluate and measure the effectiveness of their interventions, advocate to key government officials and institutions and, fundraise for their growth and sustainability.

Through the Safety and Justice Accelerator, the Center for Civic Innovation (CCI) will provide training and technical assistance to strengthen management, fiscal, and evaluation systems, as well as improve the quality of care provided by training providers in trauma-informed care, restorative justice, and other forms of community-centered care. In turn, CVIs and HVIs in Atlanta will gain the organizational knowledge and expertise needed to build and maintain sufficient organizational systems needed for long-term survival and impact.

Local CVIPs and HVIPs are best equipped to address the needs of their local populations when it comes to violence prevention and service needs and this program will help reduce levels of community violence across the City.

Specifically, this funding will help jumpstart the Accelerator by helping to bring in specialized staff, purchase equipment, and provide resources to community-based organizations to build on their violence intervention programming in Atlanta
