Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $295,054)

The District of Columbia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (DC OCME) will utilize funding to train two full-time forensic pathologist fellows to become board certified forensic pathologists. Through the DC OCME Forensic Pathology Fellowship Program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), which is housed at its National Association Medical Examiner (NAME) accredited facility, fellows will receive quality training and education. This will come in the form of performing autopsies, participating in forensic death investigation, anthropology identifications, histology microscope analysis, toxicology interpretation, moot court, and deposition testimonies, as well as participating in daily case review meetings to discuss postmortem examinations.
