Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,990,000)

The City of Tulsa, in partnership with Impact Tulsa’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative, proposes a resilience-based community engagement response to violence intervention and prevention to address rising gun violence and homicides, and facilitate community healing and resilience in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tulsa Community Violence Intervention Initiative (TCVI) will leverage the Cure Violence Global program model, which integrates law enforcement, grassroots organizations, outreach workers, credible messengers, and behavioral and social service providers to reduce violence in discrete neighborhoods. TCVI will also employ elements of the Crime Prevention by Environmental Design to strengthen the built environment of the target neighborhoods and address root causes of violence including development of positive social and physical conditions, community resources, and economic opportunities. TCVI will include neighborhood representation in community engagement, survivors of violence and victims; voice, and data-driven community collaboration efforts. The primary target audience includes individuals ages 12-34 at high-risk of involvement in community violence. Target areas are high-crime neighborhoods identified through crime data analysis.
