Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $994,323)

The Superior Court of California, County of Orange, proposed to implement “Incorporating Peer Recovery Support into OC Treatment Courts.” The purpose is to increase access to peer recovery support services for participants in the Adult Drug and Driving Under the Influence Court programs in Orange County, California (hereafter referred to as OC Treatment Courts). Peer support is a recovery management tool to help struggling participants by pairing them with individuals in recovery who have lived with addiction. Grant funding is primarily for the contractual cost of full-time peer support specialists, who will be paired with participants struggling to advance or remain in treatment. All identified OC Treatment Court participants who can benefit from peer support specialists will have access to the service. Project activities include contracting peer support services, onboarding and integrating services into OC Treatment Courts, updating policies and procedures, pairing struggling participants with peer support specialists, attending training, and tracking performance through timely reporting of statistics and other required information. Expected outcomes include the availability of peer recovery support services, utilization of peer support specialists, increased participant program participation, increased graduation rates, and reduced recidivism.
