Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $500,000)

The applicant, the Greensboro Police Department, Greensboro, North Carolina (GPD) is requesting funding to implement the GPD Analytical Capacity Building Project. With this funding, the GPD seeks to hire a Crime Analyst and to purchase equipment and software designed to enhance analytical capacity for crime reduction. The objectives of this proposed project are to: adopt policies and align organizational structure of crime analysis functions to ensure operational efficiencies and consistency; secure resources, purchase, produce, and disseminate high-quality, data-driven analytical products and outputs; maximize use of analytical tools; develop standard training goals for crime analysts as well as GPD sworn and civilian personnel; and enhance crime analysis integration and information sharing throughout GPD. Through the GPD Analytical Capacity Building Project, the GPD will build operational capacity to institutionalize crime analysis promoting streamlined information-sharing and leveraging existing infrastructure.
