Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $3,508,354)
The JAG Program is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. ADECA LETS, as the SAA for this program, ensures JAG funds support a variety of criminal justice system components to include prevention, education, and early intervention programs, specialty courts, and multi-jurisdictional drug and violent crime task forces. The implementation process of ADECA LETS allows applicants to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. ADECA LETS places great emphasis on accountability and transparency in the management of grant funds.
The State of Alabama continues its efforts to create a more efficient criminal justice system and provide a better response to the state’s rising crime rates. Through the Byrne JAG program, ADECA LETS strives to support programs designed to address what stakeholders have identified as our greatest needs at both the state and local levels.
Over the years, the Byrne JAG program in Alabama has been very heavy on the enforcement aspect of the criminal justice system. This approach has provided funding to multiple drug and violent crime task forces across the state. While enforcement will still play a role in our overall plan, ADECA LETS will strive to provide a more balanced approach to eliminating the strains on our state criminal justice system overall.
